Abstract

At the Lisbon European Council held in March 2000, the Heads of State and Government acknowledged that "the European Union is confronted with a quantum shift resulting from globalisation and the challenges of a new knowledge-driven economy" and set the Union a major strategic goal for 2010 "to become the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion" [1]. Production and transfer of knowledge is the core business of universities, traditionally through the activities of research and teaching, but over the past decade especially, a third stream of activity has emerged, namely, pro-active involvement in the transfer of knowledge for wealth creation and regional economic development (innovation). This has led to a huge expansion in knowledge transfer activities [2]. Knowledge transfer encompasses many activities, one very important activity is Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Development. This paper describes a new holistic view of Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Development at Hochschule Wismar, University of Technology, Business and Design.
